With sunrise in these eyes
Stand alive at the edge
These trees are sentinels
Lone watchers, witnesses
All the sea, rock, crashing
So far below, whispers
Whispers peace, hunger
There is nothing
There is nothing to fear
Never light-starved
Strong to reach the clouds
At this precipice
Over space
No wind, only balance
With sunrise in these eyes
Course the sea among the birds
Lift the soul to the heavens
Before returning
To the dusty trail
Reminded again
Of the ever standing pinnacle
From which sight is ever cast down
To the glorious depths
And so, with shale scattered underfoot
With sunlight hazy in the dust
With faint song in my soul
With a stride slowly quickening
I awaken
To this day
And all others
